European Patchwork Meeting & Pojagi

In September 2023, I was lucky enough to be able to attend the European Patchwork Meeting.

The European Patchwork Meeting is an annual event that brings together patchwork enthusiasts from all over Europe to celebrate the artistry and creativity of quilting and textile crafts.

My trip there was co-funded by Creathriv-EU, an ambitious initiative coordinated by Basilicata Creativa. Creathriv-EU aims to strengthen the European Creative and Cultural Industries (CCIs) and bring them back on the sustainable growth path after the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the highlights of my excursion was definitely the Pojagi workshop I attended, led by Maryse Allard.

In this excellent workshop, Maryse introduced us to the world of the incredible traditional Korean art of Pojagi. We learned about the history of Pojagi and its significance in Korean culture. Maryse patiently taught us the traditional stitches, showing us how to stitch, fold, and layer fabrics to create our own miniature masterpieces.

As we worked on our Pojagi blocks, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment with each stitch. There was something incredibly satisfying about watching the fabrics come together, creating a beautiful patchwork of colors and textures.

But the workshop wasn’t just about learning new skills; it was also a chance to connect with others who shared my passion for creativity. As we chatted and stitched, I found myself inspired by the stories and experiences of my fellow workshop participants. It was a reminder of the power of creativity to bring people together, regardless of language or background.

In addition to the workshop, I had the opportunity to explore the numerous exhibitions that the European Patchwork Meeting had to offer. From traditional quilts to contemporary textile art, each display was a testament to the diverse talent and creativity within the patchwork community.

I want to thank Creathriv-EU for giving me the opportunity and support to embark on this unforgettable journey. The European Patchwork Meeting was not just a gathering of artists and enthusiasts; it was a celebration of creativity, friendship, and the joy of discovery.

As I reflect on my experience, I am filled with gratitude for the memories made and the skills learned. Here’s to many more adventures in this incredible world of quilting.

This project was co-funded by the European Unionโ€™s Single Market Programme.
